Also known as: D-Dimer Assay, Fibrin Degradation Fragment
A D-Dimer test measures the level of D-dimer, a protein fragment produced when a blood clot breaks down, in the blood. It may be used as part of evaluating conditions related to blood clot formation, such as deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, stroke or disseminated intravascular coagulation, in the appropriate clinical context. A D-Dimer result alone does not confirm or rule out these conditions — results are interpreted together with symptoms, medical history and other relevant clinical information by a healthcare professional.
